Sculptra is dermal filler used to fill in facial lines and wrinkles, restore a youthful appearance and stimulate collagen production. Results generally last up to three years.

What is Sculptra?

Sculptra originated and received FDA approval in 2004, to treat patients who experienced facial loss (lipoatrophyy) due to the human immunodeficiency virus. When these patients lost the underlying fat supply in their face, they developed hollow-eyes and sunken cheeks. The success of Sculptra as a cosmetic enhancement for these patients prompted its release to all individuals who want similar benefits of improvement in these areas of their face.
Sculptra was approved by the FDA in 2009 for cosmetic correction of facial wrinkles, contour deficiencies, smile lines and other problems in healthy people. It is the first facial injectable that gives you noticeable, subtle results and last up to two years.

How does Sculptra work for me?

Sculptra is injected under the skin in hollowed out areas to plump them up again. It works gradually, thickening the skin for a more natural appearance. It is a less expensive, less invasive, comparable alternative to patients who desire, but do not require a cheek lift, neck lift or full or mid –face lift.

Will I need a patch test?

Sculptra does not require a patch test because it is not made of animal or human material. It is made of a substance that does not harm the human body; therefore it does not cause allergies. Sculptra has been used in other surgical products and is broken down by the human body.

How is the treatment done?

After a consultation with the Doctor if you are a candidate for Sculptra, a local anesthetic is applied and then Sculptra is injected into the desired area(s). You may undergo treatments once a month until your desired look is achieved. This typically requires three to four sessions. The results are not immediately visible; they happen gradually and can eventually end in a dramatic change.

After the procedure

You may experience redness in the treatment area, minor swelling or bruising and slight discomfort, but these symptoms disappear within a day or two. You can use an ice pack immediately after the treatment, to minimize these symptoms. The results can last for two or more years. You may choose to return for touch up treatments.

You should be able to return to your daily activities, immediately after the treatment. Unlike a face lift, the side effects of which can be seen up to a month after the procedure, the visible side effects of Sculptra are apparent for only a day or so. A full Sculptra treatment is also half the cost of a cheek lift with comparable results.
